New Plymouth Airport

The New Plymouth Airport redevelopment created a modern, spacious terminal building that welcomes travellers to the region. Designed with input from Puketapu Hāpu, the terminal reflects local identity and cultural narratives while providing a functional, future-focused gateway. With capacity for 650,000 passengers a year, it incorporates retail and hospitality offerings that enhance the visitor experience.

Clelands’ Role
Clelands were engaged as principal contractor to deliver this high-profile project within a live airport environment. Our proven track record in public buildings and collaborative approach were key factors in our selection. Working under the Civil Aviation Authority’s strict Safety Management System, we ensured the continued safe and uninterrupted operation of the airport throughout construction.

Clelands were selected for the project for their demonstrated track record in delivering high quality public buildings and their willingness to work as part of a team for a 'best for project' outcome. Their systems and processes for quality assurance, programme and cost, including the management of subcontractors, are proactive and effective. I would have no hesitation in recommending Clelands as a lead contractor for any high-profile complex project.
