Green School NZ
As part of the establishment of Green School New Zealand, Clelands delivered three striking classroom buildings known as Waka. The project was guided by environmental considerations in both design and construction, setting a benchmark for waste reduction and recycling. Each Waka embodies the school’s vision of innovation and sustainability, providing students with inspiring, future-focused learning environments.
Clelands’ Role
Clelands were engaged as head contractor to construct the classrooms, each defined by a complex structure of curved glulam beams and multifaceted ply. These forms were then clad with a custom Structurflex membrane, requiring precision and collaboration across trades to achieve the desired architectural outcome.
The curved glulam timber ribs were prefabricated and assembled on site with a high degree of accuracy. Clelands coordinated complex temporary works and scaffolding systems to enable safe erection of the frames. Precision joinery and staged sequencing were critical to achieving the exact geometry required for the architectural design.
The Green School campus blends bold architectural vision with the natural Taranaki landscape. Clelands delivered these iconic learning pods using sustainable materials and specialist construction methods. The result is a world-class education space that feels part of its environment.
