Destination Kāwaroa

Destination Kāwaroa brings new life to Kāwaroa Park, transforming the foreshore into a vibrant, multi-generational play and learning space. Developed in partnership with Taranaki Foundation, mana whenua (Ngāmotu and Ngāti Te Whiti), New Plymouth District Council, and NP Partners, this thoughtfully crafted destination delivers sensory water features, climbing platforms, a pump track, and educational zones, all designed to reflect the region’s rich culture, heritage, and ecology.

Completed over three well‑executed stages (Stage One opened December 2024; Stages Two and Three followed in August 2025), the project spans approximately 22,000 m². The result is a free, accessible community destination enjoyed by up to 2,000 visitors a day—an inspiring legacy asset realised through collaboration, thoughtful design, and generous community support.

From initial tender stage, value engineering during negotiations and ongoing execution, Clelands have illustrated their support to accurately price and further reduce costs utilizing their vast experience in executing complex projects.
